Did you meet the entry requirements and attain the minimum entry grade to the University of Nairobi? Big up! Kindly note that all students joining university are selected and placed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, KUCCPS immediately after the release of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. KCSE candidates are therefore expected to apply to KUCCPS and specify their areas of interest by selecting their preferred programmes either during the first or second revision of courses within the set deadlines.

Students who are not satisfied with their KUCCPS placement at the University of Nairobi this year are free to apply for inter-university transfer to their preferred institutions so long as they meet the placement criteria. To change your course at the University of Nairobi, you need to apply for inter-faculty transfer after reporting.

THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI (UON) ADMISSION LETTER

To download the University of Nairobi (UON) Admission letter;

  1. Access the KUCCPS Admission Letters Link at https://smis.uonbi.ac.ke/
  2. Type your Student Registration Number in the ‘Registration Number’ Box.
  3. For the Password,  Use your National ID / Passport No. or KCSE Index No. or Registered Mobile No. as your initial password. Then, click on ‘Log In’.
  4. Locate the Admission Letter download tab and click on it to download it.
  5. Print the Admission letter and read the instructions keenly. In case you have queries, please direct them to the University by using the official (provided) contacts on your admission letter.
THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI ADMISSION LETTER

The University admission letter is an important document that enables a prospective student to prepare adequately before joining the institution. Contents of the University admission letter are:

  • Your Admission Number
  • Your Name
  • Your Postal Address and other contact details
  • The Course you have been selected to pursue.
  • Reporting dates

Given the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the University of Nairobi has joined other universities in digitizing services including issuing of assignments and examinations to students to facilitate learning.

This has been made possible through the creation of an e-learning portal dubbed e-class.uonbi.ac.ke.

E-Class facilitates the electronic dissemination of information and electronic learning in the ODel mode of study.

Learning materials are uploaded hence giving tutors and learners an opportunity to interact virtually.

HOW TO ACCESS UoN E-CLASS PORTAL

The UoN Learning Management System, LMS can be accessed through the web or through the moodle mobile app.

HOW TO ACCESS UoN E-CLASS PORTAL VIA WEB

  1. Access the URL e-class.uonbi.ac.ke from your browser
  2. Enter your username which is your registration number without slashes
  3. Fill your password which is either your ID number or passport number.

NOTE: In case you encounter any difficulties trying to log onto the portal, kindly send your details: Registration number, ID number, and phone number to the following email for assistance-helpdeskmain@uonbi.ac.ke.

HOW TO ACCESS UoN E-CLASS PORTAL VIA MOBILE APP

  1. Access your play store using your smartphone
  2. Download the moodle mobile app
  3. Enter the e-class Url: e-class.uonbi.ac.ke
  4. Enter your username which is your registration number without slashes
  5. Fill your password which is either your ID number or passport number to log in.

HOW TO NAVIGATE THE MENU

The good news is that the menu items are concise and easy to navigate through.  They include

  1. Home: this indicates the list of courses, category and general information about the e-class portal
  2. Events: This tab contains all announcements, assignments, and due dates and discussions.
  3. Dashboard/ My Courses: it contains all the courses that you are expected to undertake at that particular moment.

 

HOW TO ACCESS COURSE MATERIALS

  1. Once you have logged into the portal, click on the tab labeled “Home”
  2. Scroll downwards to search for your course
  3. Click on your course once you spot it and select the “enroll me” option
  4. All your enrolled courses will appear on the dashboard
  5. Click on the course at the dashboard and navigate all the resources attached for that particular course.

 

HOW TO SUBMIT AN ASSIGNMENT

Please note that all the assignments have a set due date. They are attached under the events tab. Therefore, you are advised to attempt and submit all the assignments before the set deadlines.

  1. Access the Events tab on your menu
  2. Click on Assignment
  3. Click on Add submission or type your response in the text field.
  4. Search the file you would like to upload
  5. Click on it to upload and submit
  6. Wait for assessment and grading by your e-instructor
