In spite of the numerous complaints leveled against the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, over delayed payment of examiners, center managers, supervisors, and invigilators, the council has now confirmed that even in the future, KNEC will still not pay the contracted professionals in time.

This is after the Council confirmed the payment of contracted professionals who manned the 2021 KCPE and KCSE national examinations administered between March and April this year. Unfortunately, examiners who spent long hours, sometimes being forced to work under very unfavorable conditions in the wee hours of dawn will continue to wait for the release of their dues.

REASONS FOR DELAYED KNEC EXAMINERS’ PAY

According to the Council, the 2022 academic year is a tight one with the examiner expected to administer five national examinations in less than a year. Besides the tight schedule, KNEC has justified the delayed payment for examiners citing the rigorous process involved in the verification of examiners’ data.

According to the newly appointed KNEC boss Dr. David Njeng’ere, the back only stops with the procedure of verifying examiners’ details. Therefore the issue is not delayed pay but verification of data.

“It is not a delay but an issue of procedure and that is why it takes time,” he noted.

This process will not however go on for long given that the Council is slowly doing away with the national marking exercise.

This follows the introduction and the rollout of school-based assessments that are continuous-formative in nature.

In December, knec will for the first time conduct a national examination at grade six after which learners will join a junior secondary school in February 2022. According to CS Magoha, all these learners will get placed in secondary schools near their homes so that they can become day scholars.

The criteria for placing learners in junior secondary schools next year will depend on both formative School-Based Assessments, SBA, and Summative Competency-Based Assessments, CBA.

School-based assessment will account for 60 percent of the candidate’s final score while the national examination is known as the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, KPSEA will carry 40 percent of the candidate’s final score.

Besides KPSEA and SBA assessments, the education ministry will also place grade six learners in secondary schools based on the choice of subjects especially now that CBC has incorporated indigenous languages and other technical subjects such as Agriculture and Home Science.

KPSEA National Examinations

Contrary to the expectations of many who thought that KPSEA will cover over 11 learning areas-subjects, the first KPSEA examination will cover five broad subjects namely Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, Kiswahili, Creative Arts, and Social Studies.

Official Exam Dates for KPSEA

The 2022 KPSEA national tests will be conducted within three days between November 28, 2022, and November 30, 2022.

The most perturbing is the fact that the KPSEA national assessment will not involve Insha and Composition writing.

KPSEA tests will also provide candidates with multiple choice questions which means that KNEC will no longer engage the services of KCPE examiners given that multiple questions can be marked by optical marker readers, OMR machines.

Important notes for 2022-2023 Knec Examiners

Vacancies for 2022 KNEC KCPE/KCSE Examiners marking the 2021 KCPE/ KCSE at the knec-examiners-app

The 2022 KCPE and KCSE Knec examiners will be competitively selected from all 8 regions and the 47 counties in Kenya. Qualified teachers are expected to apply for the available 42, 000 slots for KCSE examiners and 7, 000 slots for KCPE examiners this year before the given deadline via the https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke/

The 2022-2023 KNEC Examiners vacancies will be competitively filled this year and only teachers who meet the minimum qualifications below will be granted access to apply.

KNEC examiners vacancies 2022-2023 selection criteria/ legibility

Reporting Dates for 2022 KNEC KCPE/KCSE Examiners marking the 2021 KCPE/ KCSE

Any teacher applying for the 2022 KNEC Examiners Vacancies for KCPE/ KCSE marking must

Be a Kenyan Citizen

Possess a valid national identification card.

Be TSC Registered

Not be on TSC interdiction for any indiscipline cases

Possess a valid KNEC registration Certificate for all examiners who have completed the KNEC training modules for all examiners.

Kindly note that only invited examiners only will be allowed to access the marking centers on the reporting dates indicated on the invitation letters.

Examiners who will not be able to access the examiners’ portal and download their invitation letters are therefore advised to keep off the marking venues since trying to access the marking centers is an errand of futility. KNEC invites and selects examiners based on their performance during KNEC training. The top performers are given opportunities first since they are likely to deliver more credible results.

REPORTING DATES AND TIMING FOR 2022 KNEC EXAMINERS

Given the throat-cutting competition for the limited Knec examiners’ vacancies, invited KCPE/ KCSE examiners are therefore advised to strictly adhere to the timelines indicated on the KNEC Examiners’ invitation letters 2022-2023.

The official reporting time is 2:00 P.M. for all KNEC examiners. Kindly note that the reporting dates differ from one KCSE script to the other since the papers have got different demands.

More demanding KCSE papers like English paper 3 Eng 101/3 require more time while marking since examiners have to peruse through at least three compositions per candidate. These examiners therefore will report to their designated marking centers a few days after the candidates sit for their last KCSE examination paper in early April.

Examiners who fail to turn up on the official reporting date and time indicated in the invitation letter will be disqualified.

PAYMENT RATES, DATES, AND TIME FOR 2022 KNEC EXAMINERS

The 2022 KNEC Payment rates per day remain constant this year. Therefore 2022 KCPE and KCSE examiners will receive Kshs 150 per day for co-ordination of the marking schemes for the first few days.

The KNEC payment rates per script range from Kshs 51 to Kshs 77 depending on the length and demands of the paper. English paper three examiners are the highest-paid Knec examiners in the latest KNEC examiners’ payment rates per paper 2020-2021.

The 2022-2023 KNEC Examiners payment rates may be revised subject to the availability of funds at the council.

Knec Marking Centres for 2022 Examiners marking the 2021 KCPE/ KCSE this year

The marking centers for this year’s KCPE and KCSE examinations are usually indicated in the invitation letters. They vary from one year to the other. The good news is that all KCSE and KCPE KNEC marking centers are distributed across secondary schools with better amenities within the Nairobi Cosmopolitan area. Last year, the KNEC Marking centers were as follows:

KCSE 2021 MARKING CENTRES.
