On 2nd May, Kenyans woke up to sad news on the untimely demise of Tecra Muigai-Tabitha Karanja’s second born. She passed on in a grizzly road accident.

“Tecra’s brilliance, passion, and energy were the sources of important innovations that have enriched the company’s product range, including the development of new brands that were scheduled to be launched this year,” read part of the statement released by the family.

Tabitha Karanja, Keroche Industries Scandals and Tax Evasion
Keroche Industries’ rise to the top has not been without a few hiccups and mudslides. After being commissioned, the area MP Kihagi threatened to break all hell loose by breaking into Keroche Breweries to expose the illegal production of second-generation brews.
This scandal was later followed by a major tax evasion scandal whereby Tabitha was accused of evading tax payment by the Kenya Revenue authority, KRA.
According to the allegations by KRA, Keroche Industries owed the Government a total of Kshs 14 billion in taxes. This prompted the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji to issue an arrest warrant. Although Tabitha denounced the allegations associating with unfair competitors, KRA won the court case obliging Keroche Industries to make arrangements on how to settle the tax arrears.
