KCSE Agriculture examiners who are currently stationed at Moi Girls Isinya High School for instance will leave the marking centre on Friday January 23,2023 having completed the marking process.

The 2023 KCSE marking exercise was not a walk in the park for some examiners.

CRE paper one examiners who are currently stationed at St. Francis Mang’u Girls High School raised eyebrows on the high handedness and rigid nature of the Chief Examiner whose name has been withheld for security purposes.

The examiner in an official statement released on Tuesday noted that the examiners had complained about the chief examiner forcing him to step down. A new chief examiner in acting capacity had to be chosen for the marking process to go on smoothly.

The examiners further demanded for better payment rates per script now that the council pays them Kshs 55 per script. Knec however stood its ground claiming that there was no extra budget for a possible pay rise.

Infuriated, the examiners halted marking and pleas from key education officials-CS Machogu and TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia fell on deaf ears.

Knec therefore decided to retire some CRE paper one examiners and recall those who were willing to continue with the marking process.

The retired KCSE Examiners 2023 had marked an average of 2 boxes which amounts to Kshs 15,000. Knec reimbursed the fare and other travel expenses but it is yet to pay the outstanding amount.

The examiners are hoping that the Council will honour its part of the bargain and pay their dues on time.

Although the majority of the KCSE Examiners have finished marking, KCSE English paper three examiners are still held up at Thika High School and St. Francis Mang’u Boys High School burning the midnight oil in a bid to wind up the tedious marking process.

CRE paper one examiners will also be among the last ones to leave the Knec marking centres 2023 since Knec had to hire fresh examiners from its database to complete marking.

Upon completion, Knec will reimburse the examiners fare and pay them an advance.

The arrears will be paid once KCSE Results are released if Knec honours its pledge to pay KCSE examiners on time.

Last year, members of parliament had to weigh in on the CS Education before KNEC released KCSE examiners’ pay.
