KNEC Reveals Number of Registered candidates for 2021 KCPE and KCSE Examinations.

The 2021 KCSE class has also recorded a larger population as compared to last year. In 2020, 752,602 candidates were registered for the examinations. 78,424 more candidates will sit the examinations this year and therefore recording a 10.42% increase.

KNEC Chief Executive officer Dr David Njeng’ere stated that adequate plans have been put in place to ensure smooth administering of the examinations as per the government calendar. Preparations for this year’s examinations are underway as the council has started training teachers on exam marking. The training took place between October 3rd and 9th with the successful trainees set to be incorporated in to the KNEC examiners’ database.

Teachers were trained as examiners on the following subjects; Composition and Insha, for primary school teachers, and secondary school teachers were trained in marking English, Kiswahili, Biology, Chemistry, History and Government, Agriculture and Christian Religious Education.

KCPE exam will kick off on March 4th 2022, and will end on March 9th,2022, while the KCSE exams will be taken as from February 28th,2022 to April 1st,2022.

Despite many students being registered for the examination, a high population still misses the examinations. In 2020 for instance, 12,416 KCPE registered candidates failed to sit the exams. 9,373 registered KCSE candidates also missed the examinations.

The ministry of education accredited the absence to the Covid-19 pandemic which affected the school activities and calendar last year, early pregnancies and marriages among other causes.
