Education News Today 2021-2022: Good News to Teachers As Education Ministry Announces CBC Curriculum Review in 2022
The Education Ministry has finally bowed to pressure emanating from various stakeholders after announcing a curriculum review of the new Competence- Based Curriculum to be conducted in the year 2022
This is after educational experts and even parents accused the current Competence-Based Curriculum of glaring gaps especially when it comes to assessment just like the outgoing curriculum was accused of promoting rote learning instead of promoting and equipping learners with pre-requiste skills, knowledge and values.
Some stakeholders have also termed the new curriculum obsolete since it does not clearly spell out how learners will transit and get placed in various secondary schools besides choosing the right career paths.
Besides, parents have been complaining about about the skyrocketting expenses steered by the rollout of the new CBC curriculum during such hard economic times.
The cost of the textbooks coupled with the requirements in classes for successful lessons have brought a public concern.
Yesterday, Education CS directed all the primary schools to used projectors instead of the printed materials to conduct exams since printed materials are proving to be expensive on the part of parents.
Some experts have also warned against rushing to implement the curriculum citing far reaching long-term effects.
Others have also threatened to go to court seeking an order to have the full rollout of CBC stopped.
These complaints have now paved way for curriculum reforms scheduled to take place next year after the ministry of education finally bowed to pressure.CS Magoha has now revealed that the curriculum will be reviewed next year.This is a big relief to teachers who are overburdened with the workloads.They are also seen as making the implementation process complicated with the tasks that they give the learners.If this will relieve them,then the ministry should move with speed to even remove some tasks or review the subjects.
