The latest education news making headlines today encompass;

President Ruto promises to abolish Helb, set up funding body

Ruto promised to abolish Helb and TVET funding and to establish national skills and funding council to connect the two levels in order to provide a credit transfer framework and to support academic progression.

The National Education Fund will mobilise grants, bursaries, and scholarships from private and public sponsors to cover non-tuition costs.

“To bridge the current higher education funding gap of up to 45 per cent, the government will establish the National Skill and Funding Council that amalgamates Helb, TVET, and University Funding Board.

Primary, secondary and colleges co-curricular activities dates released by Education ministry

The National Drama and Film Festival will be held at the Shimo la Tewa High School in Mombasa County between April 20 and April 30.

C0-curricular Activities to Get Billions in Funding

“The government funding shall cater for travel, accommodation, the subsistence of all students participating in all co-curricular at all levels of the activities,” said Kipsang.

The State had revealed that it would have spent Sh3.5 billion on co-curriculum activities in public primary and secondary schools in 2020.

Kipsang, who was then the Education CS, said Sh2.8 billion would have been channeled to secondary schools and Sh700 million to primary schools for sports among other co-curriculum activities.

Coding is the process of converting human intentions into commands that computers can comprehend. The lessons are presented to learners through an interactive online studio.

Adding coding syllabus to the curriculum “is a milestone for the school since it will enhance students’ technological skills and put them on the right trajectory in the ever-growing world of technology.”

After witnessing the swearing-in of principal secretaries yesterday, Dr Ruto talked about how he arrived at the decision of domiciling junior secondary school (JSS) in the primary school structure.
