IN summary:

According to a statement by the Teachers Service Commission, 97, 736 teachers have shown interest in the slots available for secondary schools and 5, 182 in primary schools.

The TSC has changed the deadline from Wednesday to Thursday next week.

The Teachers Service Commission has revealed that the ratio of jobless teachers to the available slots is almost 10:1.

This means that the number of unemployed teachers is ten times the available teacher internship slots.

The commission said 97, 736 teachers have shown interest in the slots available for secondary schools and 5, 182 in primary schools.

The applications have been submitted through the TSC website, www.tsc.go.ke.

The commission also said it had received concerns from some applicants who have experienced difficulties while applying for the slots.

Catherine Lenairoshi, a member of the corporate communication department said that following the difficulties, the commission had increased the efficiency of its system to ease the entire process.

She also confirmed that the deadline for application had been shifted to Thursday next week to enable all interested candidates to submit their applications.

AVAILABLE SLOTS

A total number of 4,300 qualified teachers will be deployed to primary schools and 6, 000 to secondary schools.

The aim of the recruitment is to plug the acute teacher shortage in the basic education sector.
