23 Teachers Arrested, Forced to Quarantine for Attending a Crowded Online Training Session

23 tutors in Lodwar, Turkana County were arrested and quarantined for defying directives aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus.

Confirming the incident, Turkana Central Police Commander David Mburukua said that the 23 were among the 61 being trained at Missions of Hope School Napuu on online teaching.

Public gatherings

The teachers were rounded up after the police in Lodwar unearthed their plan. They held a public gathering against the Presidential directives to curb local transmission of the coronavirus.

According to Mr. Mburukua, the police stormed the school after members of the public notified them of what was happening.

The training had already taken place for a few days before the tutors were busted.

“Such activity is illegal, especially now that the country is battling the spread of covid-19. The teachers contravened the Ministry of Health’s directive on social distancing. That is why we arrested them,” he added.
