“Gloves are a special preserve of medics so stop masquerading as one,” DG Amoth’s take on Kenyans wearing gloves to prevent the spread of coronavirus
DG Amoth has puzzled Kenyans today after he lashed out at some people who are wearing gloves to prevent Covid-19 infection.
Amoth’s punch line was very simple “stop wearing gloves unless you are a medic.”
Dr. Amoth said this when he was given a chance by CS Kagwe to address a media briefing at Afya House on April 9, 2020.
He further added that gloves should not be used as a substitute for regular hand washing.
The DG said that those Kenyans wearing gloves are endangering their lives since they are likely to avoid washing their hands regularly.
Besides, the temptation to touch one’s eyes and nose while wearing gloves is high given the complacency and the false sense of security that comes with it.
According to Dr. Amoth, there is no supporting evidence linking coronavirus and the wearing of gloves.
Dr. Amoth also added that gloves should be worn by coronavirus positive patients in isolation centers and the doctors and nurses attending to them.
So the message is very simple, gloves are a special preserve of medics, stop masquerading as one!
