Coronavirus positive cases in Kenya rise to 59 after 9 more on Tuesday, March 31, 2020
1, 000 more health workers to be hired to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya
The number of coronavirus cases in Kenya has risen to 51 after 9 more tested positive on Tuesday March 31, 2020.
Speaking at Afya House on Tuesday, March, 2020, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi the CAS MOH confirmed that in the last 24 hours, 234 people have been tested for the COVID-19 virus and the results of 9 people were confirmed to be positive.
Dr. Mwangangi said that a total of 1, 668 contacts are still being monitored at designated Government quarantine facilities across Kenya.
The tracing of contacts for the nine new coronavirus positive cases in Kenya is ongoing.
A total of 508 people have been discharged from the contact follow-up program.
Kenya’s state of Preparedness on Coronavirus
Dr. Mwangangi said that the country has already set up Isolation centers for coronavirus positive cases.
Mbagathi Hospital is the main isolation center whose capacity stands at 120 beds.
Mbagathi is meant for testing and isolation of COVID-19 positive cases in Kenya.
Besides, the government has also identified the Kenyatta University Teaching and referral hospital whose capacity exceeds 300 beds.
The government is also working with the County Governments to identify 20 boarding schools to be used as coronavirus isolation centers in case the situation becomes worse.
Coronavirus health workers
On Health workers, Dr. Mwangangi thanked them for working under tough conditions to combat the virus and promised to ensure they are protected from unnecessary exposure by providing them with enough protective gear.
She added that the Government is in the process of Hiring 1, 000 health workers to boost capacity.
Despite the Global shortage of coronavirus personal protective equipment, the Kenyan Government has promised to protect the welfare of health workers through local capacity building.
The MOH has also scaled up testing capacities. More testing centers shall be opened to ensure that more people get tested for the COBVID-19 cases in Kenya.
