Shock As 12 ECDE Pupils In Moi’s Bridge In Soy Sub County, Eldoret Fall Into A Pit Latrine
The 12 ECDE Pupils Were Attending School At Moi Baptist Bibal Mission And Nursery School When The Accident Occurred
12 ECDE pupils at Moi Baptist Bible Mission in Soy Sub County, Eldoret County on February 29, 2020, fell into a pit latrine as they were playing during lunch break.
This unfortunate event comes at a time when high profile TSC officials are assessing schools to monitor effective TPAD implementation.
One of its key assessment areas is learner safety and protection. In this area, all teachers in Kenya are expected to protect learners from all forms of injuries and accidents by ensuring that they study in a safe environment.
According to Annette Ndalo Nasimiyu, the teacher who was looking after the pupils, the pupils were playing near the pit latrine during lunch break when the accident occurred.
Fortunately, the teacher screamed to draw the attention of the neighbours who came to their rescue.
A bucket was used to rescue the youngsters before rushing them to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, Mr Fanuel Nasio, Soy Sub County OCPD said that the matter is still under investigation.
He warned that someone will have to be held responsible for the life-threatening incident because it is weird that more than 10 pupils can be allowed to get into the latrine simultaneously.
The good news is all the children were rescued and rushed to Moi Bridge Health Centre.
