TSC Housing Levy for Principals and Teachers Breeds Loathe for KUPPET and KNUT Officials 

TSC News Today: Teachers in Kenya are breathing fire after their union leaders who have now turned their back on them gave a nod to the finance bill 2023 which will see their payslips mutilated further.

According to the 2023 Finance Bill, each government employee is expected to remit 1.5% of their basic salary to the government every month.

Teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have not been spared for they will contribute through deductions from their payslip 1.5% of their salaries that will go towards the housing fund starting next month.

Consequently, teachers have vowed to avenge the betrayal from their union leaders. In Nakuru county, for instance, the KUPPET representative Honourable Akelo Misori was at the receiving end after he was accused of representing his interests instead of the teachers’.

During the Branch General Assembly held at Ngata Bridge, teachers made it clear that they will change the constitution to discard the national leaders the likes of Omboko Milemba and Akelo Misori.

Teachers further expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the National Executive Board is constituted of retirees and politicians who can devour their young ones so long as their stomachs are empty.

The National Executive Board does not feel the pinch of the regular teachers. They do not know the pain of filling TPAD on a termly basis. Neither do they understand how the harsh economic times have disheveled the financial might of the teachers.

Currently, principals are attending a meeting organized by the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) at Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Hall in Mombasa. The 46th KESSHA meeting saw thousands of secondary school heads troop to Mombasa.

Some of the dignitaries who were expected to address the teachers encompass KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu and KUPPET Secretary Akelo Misori.

The two were however scrapped off the  KESSHA program and will not address the principals following protests from heads and teachers.

The two “Judases” will not be allowed to attend any events meant for the teachers or heads.

This latest drama unfolds barely a day after KUPPET national chair Omboko Milemba was whisked off from agitated Homabay County teachers who confronted him for supporting the Controversial Finance Bill 2023.

Milemba who is also the Member of Parliament for Emuhaya Constituency had attended a secondary school sports tournament at the TomMboya University in Homa Bay County in the company of KUPPET’s Secretary General Akelo Misori. They received a warm welcome but when the Master of Ceremonies welcomed Milemba to give his opening remarks, they paved the way for the final match.

The teachers’ anger is obviously justified since the so-called union officials are full of greed and egocentrism. Besides, they are as guilty as charged.
