It is now barely two weeks since the cabinet secretary for education professor George Magoha announced the KCSE results. Since then there has been a rising demand for the formula used by KUCCPS in calculating cluster points by restless candidates.KUCCPS is expected to upload every student’s cluster points in their portal this month.Many universities will admit students in August or September.Here is a look at how cluster points are calculated by KUCCPS.
What are cluster points?
Cluster points are the total points of the four highest performed subjects required to pursue the desired course.They are forty eight in total.For example if a student has scored an A then 12×4 means he will have 48 cluster points.In simple terms the highest cluster points per subject are 12 points.
What are cut-off points?
Cut-off points are the weighted cluster points of the last competitively placed student in a given degree programme.They are calculated to three decimal points to avoid students from tying and having the same points.
How are cut-off points calculated?
1. Take the sum of points in the 4 subjects considered in the course you want to pursue and the divide by 48.
2.Take your total points then divide by 84 for example 78/84.
3.Multiply answer 1 by answer 2 then get the square root of the product.
4.Multiply the square root you got in 3 above by 48 and that gives your weighted cluster points.
As simple as that.However you need not be stressed as KUCCPS will calculate them for you.
