Maranda High School Sends All 2021 Candidates Home Indefinitely

 

Maranda high school has sent home all the 2021 candidates after they allegedly threatened to burn the school following mock exam that is slated for 6th December 2021.

The internal mock exams, which were scheduled for Monday, December 6, have since been postponed to a later date, which will be communicated.

According to Siaya County Director of Education, Nelson Sifuna, the students had, on Tuesday night, threatened to torch learning or accommodation facilities within the school.

Standard has reported that one of the teachers of Maranda High School, who sought anonymity, said the decision to send the learners home was arrived at on Thursday morning.

He said: “The Board of Management (BOM) met, and decided to send the students home to avert possible destruction of school property,”.

The anonymous teacher further revealed that students had written the threats on toilet walls. It was their schoolmates, informed the teacher.

Decision to send Maranda High 2021 flag bearers home comes barely three weeks after all students were readmitted back to school following a dormitory fire on November 7.

 

All 400 Maranda School Form 4 students sent home indefinitely

All the Form Four students of Maranda High School were on Thursday sent home indefinitely for allegedly refusing to write mock exams and threatening to burn the school.

Siaya County Director of Education Nelson Sifuna confirmed to The Standard that over 400 students were sent home Thursday morning.

“The internal mock exams, which were scheduled for Monday, December 6, have since been postponed to a later date, which will be communicated,” he said.

Sifuna said the students had, on Tuesday night, threatened to torch learning or accommodation facilities within the school.

 

One of the teachers of Maranda High School, who spoke to The Standard on condition of anonymity, said the decision to send the learners home was arrived at on Thursday morning.

“The Board of Management (BOM) met, and decided to send the students home to avert possible destruction of school property,” he said.

“The students had written the threats on toilet walls. It was their schoolmates, who reported the matter to us,” added the teacher.

This comes barely two weeks after the students were readmitted following a dormitory fire on November 7.

Six Maranda High School students, who were charged with alleged arson, were freed on Monday by the Bondo Principal Magistrate’s Court over lack of evidence.
