The Teachers Service Commission has invited qualified and interested persons to apply for nomination for appointment as members of the Teachers Service Commission.
This is according to the TSC Act No 20 of 2012.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE APPOINTMENT
Interested applicants should:
a. Be Kenyan Citizens
b. Hold a bachelors degree from a recognized university
c. Have knowledge and adequate experience of at least ten years in the following fields:
i. Education
ii. Management
iii. Governance
iv. Law
d. Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Kenyan Constitution 2010.
DUTIES and responsibilities
A member of the commission is expected to ensure that the commission functions effectively and exercises its constitutional mandate as provided in Article 237 of the Kenyan Constitution 2010.
The specific duties and responsibilities as per the TSC Act No. 20 of 2012 will include:
a. Formulating policies aimed at achieving the Commission’s mandate
b. Providing strategic direction, leadership and oversight to the TSC Secretariat.
c. Managing the payroll of teachers
d. Facilitating career progress and professional development of teachers
e. Ensuring that teachers comply with the teaching standards as prescribed by the Teachers Service Commission Act No. 20 of 2012.
f. Monitoring teachers’ conduct and performance in the teaching service
g. performing other duties necessary for the effective discharge of the commission’s duties and powers.
DISQUALIFICATION OF MEMBERSHIP
A person is not qualified for appointment as a member of the Teachers Service Commission if:
1. S/ he is serving as a Member of Parliament or county assembly
2. S/ he is serving as a member of a governing body of a political party
3. S/ he is serving as a member of a Local Authority
4. S/ he has been convicted of misuse or abuse of a state office or public office following the law or has contravened Chapter Six of the Kenyan Constitution, 2010.
