TSC URGED NOT TO “KILL” AGED TEACHERS AHEAD OF SCHOOLS’ REOPENING; EDUCATION NEWS

Professor Magoha, the cabinet secretary in the Ministry of education has released a communique on matters KCPE And KCSE administration and release of payment for examiners and other contracted professionals in the country.

Many Questions pertaining to the renumeration of center managers, Deputy center managers, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and even science teachers involved in setting up the practicals have always bogged up the stakeholders’ minds (read teachers).

The criteria used in paying the invigilators and the supervisors has always been criticized given the fact that the rates have been constant for as long as most teachers can remember. The report released by the CS indicates that KNEC does not really purpose to pay teachers involved but just reimburses the transport and meal costs that those involved meet.

The report further indicated that Deputy center managers were not to be paid a coin because their role was solely on maintaining discipline amongst the candidates as they sit for the exam, a job they are well paid for by TSC I suppose!

As for the Science teachers involved in setting up practicals, the report clearly spells out that the role is part of their duties as teachers of science, so they shouldn’t expect any tokens from the examination body- KNEC!

The report further says that the examiners payment rates had been reviewed in 2019 and that the next time such reviews would take place will be 2022! And that different papers were renemurated differently based on how tasking the Marking exercise was perceived!

Here are the latest Knec Payment Rates for Contracted Professionals 2021-2022

No knec pay for deputy heads and deputy principals in 2021

The Council has again failed to reconsider the issue of payment for Deputy Head Teachers and Principals despite the fact that they will be present during the examination period as assistant Centre Managers.

Also walking home empty handed are teachers handling science subjects who will be required to prepare and administer practicals during the KCSE examinations.

This year’s KCPE exams will be done between October 29 and 31. Writing of theory and practical exams for KCSE exams is expected to be between Monday 4th November and Wednesday 27th November. The government has mobilised 180,000 teachers as well as police helicopters for this year’s national examinations.

A total of 286,000 professionals have been contracted by the Council to administer the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

Knec: Delayed Pay for 2021 Contracted Professionals, Examiners

The delays in Payment of the examiners 2020 was as a result of the unforeseen budgetary issue which the report recommended that the number of candidates sitting for the national examinations be communicated earlier for budgetary allocations! Isn’t this funny?
