2020 TSC Salary Increments: TSC to Increase Salaries for all Teachers Promoted before July 18, 2020

The Teachers Service Commission is planning to increase salaries for all teachers who were promoted and assigned new roles before July 18, 2020.

This grand announcement has brought to an end speculations on the fate of the teachers.

The newly appointed administrators are hence likely to receive improved packages now that their employer, TSC has approved the appointments and subsequent conversion of grades.

On the contrary, teachers who got promoted after July 18 2017 will have to be subjected to interviews first to ascertain their suitability before being confirmed.

The teachers will have to meet the minimum TSC requirements for promotion of teachers into administrative positions in 2020 among them a master’s degree for Secondary school principal.

Teachers wishing to head primary schools should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

The Teachers Service Commission has set clear guidelines and minimum requirements for teachers who would like to be promoted to serve as either deputies or principals in various schools in Kenya.

These deployment conditions are contained in the 2018 Career Progression Guidelines, CPGs for teachers and the Policy on Appointment and Deployment of Institutional Administrators of 2017.

To be appointed as a deputy principal of a secondary school in Kenya, one must meet the following conditions:

 LATEST TSC REQUIREMENTS FOR DEPUTY PRINCIPALS OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS

There are various categories of secondary school deputy principals. Therefore, the minimum conditions for appointment vary based on the various categories enlisted by the Teachers Service Commission, TSC.

  1. LATEST TSC MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR DEPUTY PRINCIPALS OF SUB COUNTY SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND ALL DAY SCHOOLS

For one to be appointed as a deputy head of a sub-county secondary school or a day school- Deputy Principal III, Grade D1, s/he must serve as a Senior Master, Grade C5 for at least three years.

Deputy Principals of Sub County and day schools are ranked in Grade D1.

  1. LATEST TSC MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR DEPUTY PRINCIPALS OF COUNTY SECONDARY SCHOOLS WITH OVER 540 STUDENTS

For one to be appointed as a deputy principal of a county secondary school with over 540 students, Deputy Principal II of Grade D2 (T-Scale 12) s/he must serve a Deputy Principal Grade D1 for at least three years.

  1. LATEST TSC MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR DEPUTY PRINCIPALS OF NATIONAL AND EXTRA COUNTY SECONDARY SCHOOLS WITH OVER 1, 000 STUDENTS (DEPUTY PRINCIPAL I, GRADE D3 T-SCALE 13)

For one to be appointed as a deputy principal of a national and extra county secondary school with over 1, 000 students (Deputy Principal I, grade D3 T-scale 13) s/he must serve as a Deputy Principal Grade D2 for at least three years.
