The latest TSC promotion news today reveal the latest development on matters TSC Promotions in Kenya. The latest details seen by our media team  revealed that over 30,000 teachers have not been promoted by their employer- the Teachers Service Commission since 2014.

This piece of crucial information became public after nominated and deregistered Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Member of Parliament Wilson Sossion presented a petition to the parliamentary Education and Research Committee on Tuesday, February 22.

Sossion’s petition required  the Teachers Service Commission Boss Dr.Nancy Macharia to offer an explanation as to why teachers who had sacrificed their resources and time to earn degrees and diplomas while still on the job were not yet promoted as per the current Career Progression Guidelines, CPGs.

The outspoken legislator and former teacher’s petition aimed at convincing  TSC to revise their policies to allow for the promotion of teachers who successfully complete further studies thus earning higher qualifications from recognized institutions.

In response to the petition, committee chair Busia MP Florence Mutua stated that the petition raised important issues that needed to be discussed and addressed as soon as possible.

“As a committee, we have supported the petition and agreed to invite the TSC to shed light on the issues raised. We have also agreed to urgently hear the petition and ensure we capture the cash needed to implement this in the next budget,” Mutua stated.

Sossion’s petition was also signed by teachers Martha Omollo, Eva Muchemi, and Salvin Munene, who have been enjoined in the case since 2014, seeking answers as to why. TSC has unilaterally refused to recognize in-service teachers’ diplomas, undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate degrees from accredited institutions of higher learning.

“That in the interest of self-improvement, many teachers have progressively advanced their qualifications by pursuing and successfully earning high qualifications, ranging from diplomas, bachelors, masters and even doctoral degrees,” read the petition.

The current promotion scheme was implemented in 2015, after the commission abandoned the previous one, which was based on academic achievement. TSC then implemented the Career Progression Guidelines (CPGs), which focus on teachers’ performance in order to promote them.

“Your humble petitioners pray that this House, through the departmental Committee on Education and Research intervenes in the matter,” read the petition.

Since then, the committee has summoned TSC officials to discuss the issue of advancement among teachers who have advanced their qualifications.

According to existing data from the TSC career progression portal, all 30,000 teachers who have not been promoted have earned higher degrees and diplomas.

This comes just a day after TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia announced, via their official social media page, that manual replacement of lost registration certificates for teachers would be prohibited in order to improve efficiency.
