No Guaranteed Form One Selection 2023 to National Schools for Top KCPE Candidates. See Why

In Pictures Top Candidates in KCPE 2022

Education News Today: All the 1, 233, 852 KCPE candidates will get their form one placement results on 16th January, 2023. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that all the candidates who attained the 400 pass mark for national schools will bag direct tickets to these highly- coveted first tier schools.

This is simply because form one selection 2023 was based on a variety of factors that encompass candidate’s school choices-most preferred schools, school capacity, KCPE merit and affirmative action (disability, gender parity and regional balance)

Form One Placement Criteria for National Schools; Form One Selection Results 2023

  1. KCPE Candidate’s School Choices
  2. KCPE Merit
  3. School Capacity
  4. Affirmative Action

KCPE Candidate’s School Choices

Before candidates sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, Knec releases a list school choices for KCPE candidates,

The list features a total of 8,890 schools that include National, Extra County, County and Sub County Schools.

A KCPE candidate is only allowed to choose a total of 11 schools. These include: Four national schools, three Extra County Schools, two County and Sub County schools, each.

If a candidate goes for the most preferred national schools listed below, s/he risks missing out on their most preferred national school this year.

The schools listed above attract a mammoth crowd of form one placement applicants way beyond their declared capacities.

Candidates who select these schools should aim at over 415 KCPE marks to pull through.

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

Affirmative action is a technical terminology for a set of procedures designed to; eliminate unlawful discrimination among applicants, remedy the results of such prior discrimination, and prevent such discrimination in the future.

This form one selection criterion is applied in favor of disabled candidates or those from hardship areas (far flung, disease stricken, insecure, poor social amenities etc.)

Affirmative action ensures regional balance so that some KCPE candidates are not denied rightful places in form one selections.

The Ministry of Education therefore has the leeway to waive the pass mark for entry into national schools to accommodate such cases.
