Did Kuccps Raise University Cut-off Points 2023/2024 to B-?

KUCCPS Clarifies Raising University Entry Grade to B

Kuccps Placement 2023/2024 Cut off Points: There have been unsubstantiated claims that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service Kuccps has raised the minimum entry grade to university from C+ (46 points) to B- for the KCSE 2022 candidates.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) on Tuesday, January 24, dismissed reports that entry grades for boys joining university had been raised.

Through a statement, KUCCPS disregarded the reports, which alleged that the university entry grade had been raised to B- for candidates who sat for the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Further, KUCCPS distanced itself from reports stating that it had a new system that would give preference to female students who scored above C+.

While explaining the selection mode, KUCCPS revealed that a revised schedule containing cut-off points would be made public after review.

“Please note that this information is inaccurate and did not emanate from KUCCPS,” the statement read in part.

“An official communication on the minimum degree entry grade and other requirements will be made in due course through the mainstream media and KUCCPS website,” it added.

This followed an uproar from a section of Kenyans online who argued that raising boy’s entry grade was detrimental and against President William Ruto’s 100 per cent transition policy.

“The minimum admission requirement to apply for degree programmes will be C+ for female candidates and B- for male students,” the flagged social media statement read in part.

“KCSE candidates who will meet the cut-off points set by KUCCPS for admission to degree and diploma programmes will be required to follow the online instructions,” it added.

However, KUCCPS insisted that all reviews and communications would be made public through their verified channels.

While releasing exams on Friday, January 20, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced that only 173,345 candidates scored above C+, the minimum university entry grade.

708,071 candidates scored below C+ out of 881,416 candidates who sat for the 2022 KCSE exams.

“I, therefore, direct the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service to move with speed and establish the number of places available in our universities, colleges and TVET institutions to enable the immediate commencement of the placement exercise,” Machogu directed.
