Jeff Koinange is a famous TV presenter, radio presenter, and journalist. He has worked for international media houses such as CNN and Reuters. He currently hosts a popular show on Kenya’s popular television network, Citizen TV dubbed Jeff Koinange Live, JKL Live Show. Jeff also co-hosts the Breakfast show with Professor Hamo on Hot 96, a radio station in Kenya.

The award-winning Jeff Koinange was born in Kiambaa Village in Kiambu County in Kenya. His home town is Banana in Kiambu County within the central region of Kenya. Owing to his given names, Koinange and Mwaura it is obvious that Jeff Koinange’s tribe is Agikuyu, the most populous tribe in Kenya from which the incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta hails.

He is 54 years old as of January 7, 2020. His birthday is on January 7th every year.

Jeff Koinange was born to Hilda Wambui Koima and Fredrick Mbiyu Koinange in 1966. His father Fredrick Koinange unfortunately passed on when he was barely two months old. When interviewed by Yvonne for The Standard Digital News about what he may have missed growing up without a father, Jeff said that he missed nothing.

If anything, he was somehow glad that his father died when he was young since it would have been more difficult accepting his demise later. Besides, Jeff and his three siblings would have become spoilt brats if their father had survived to offer them all the privileges that life can offer.

His uncle Mbiyu Koinange brought him up and trained him to become a man.

Mbiyu Koinange is Jomo Kenyatta’s brother-in-law. This means that Jeff Koinange is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin.

Jeff Koinange’s aunt Lilian Wairimu Koinange is also married to Obadiah Kariuki, the bishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, ACK. She is the mother of Kenya’s Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki.

Jeff Koinange is married to Shaila Koinange, a Kenyan-Asian beauty and together they have a son Jamal Mbiyu Koinange. The two met in 1986 while auctioning as flight attendants for the Pan American World Airways.

They later married in 1998. Jeff had earlier married Sonya, a lady from Panama but they parted ways in 1994.

Jeff and Shaila Koinange tried hard to have a child for nine years without success. They finally had a son Jamal through Invitro-fertilization, IVF whom he described as the most incredible thing.

The idea of IVF was fronted by their friend Jimmy Monclus Maleketa, half Spanish, half Congolese whom they met in Lagos. Jamal is indeed a miracle baby to the Kioinanges. He was born in South Africa.

In 1987, Jeff joined Kingsborough Community college in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated with an associate degree in 1989. He later went to New York University and attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast Journalism.

He has written an autobiography “Through My African Eyes” published in 2014 by Footprints Press Kenya. In this book, Jeff records his experiences since childhood. He also delves into his experiences as a journalist in 47 African nations.

Jeff recently gifted Jalang’o a watch worth three million.

 

Jeff Koinange Career Background

Jeff’s first job was at the Kenya Television, KTN, Kenya’s first independent television channel. Between 1995-2001 Jeff worked for Reuters Television. He at some point worked for CNN as the African correspondent for the network. At CNN he covered African crises ranging from civil wars in Liberia, famine in Niger, the crisis in Darfur, and civil wars in Sierra Leone.

Due to these stories, Jeff won the Emmy Award. He exited CNN in May 2007. He joined K24 TV in 2008 hosting the Capital Talk Show.

He joined RMS Citizen TV in early 2017 where he currently hosts JKL Live Show.

He joined East Africa’s Got Talent as a judge alongside Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania), Makeda Mahadeo (Rwanda), and Gaetano Kagwa (Uganda) which was first premiered on August 4, 2019.

On 6th April 2020 Jeff Koinange’s two villas were auctioned over a Kshs 130 million debt. The advert was all over the local dailies inviting bidders to submit their interest. The bidding deposit was Kshs 5 million in cash or banker’s cheque.

The two houses were auctioned on April 28, 2020.

Jeff is a proud owner of the outlandish Mercedes Benz G- class whose factory price is Kshs 10 million.

 

Jeff Koinange Accident

In December 2019, a car similar to Jeff’s Mercedes Benz G wagon was involved in an accident, a collision with a lorry.

The news caused great panic as many people thought it was Jeff who was driving the car.

He later denied claims linking him to the accident. Later, it was established that it was Shaffie Weru, a Kenyan radio presenter whose car is similar to Jeff’s that was involved in the accident.
