Professor George Magoha has given a brief update on some of the conditions that have to be met before schools reopen.

Some of these conditions border on social distancing and sanitization.

Speaking in Kiambu while on an inspection tour at Ruiru Girls High School, CS Magoha noted that the reopening of schools will entirely depend on a paradigm shift in the general behavior and attitudes of Kenyans.

Besides, all schools must have enough flowing water and do away with six double-decker beds in dormitory cubicles.

According to CS Magoha, the above measures shall reduce infection rates and ensure learners’ safety in schools.

“If we are going to be bold enough to open schools, the public must agree to change their mindset and behave in a more civilized manner,” said the CS.

MoH Guidelines

Reopening of schools means that the public must adhere to all guidelines set by the Ministry of Health to reduce local transmissions.

The CS held a different view from that of the World Health Organization, WHO that the coronavirus might graduate from being a pandemic into an endemic.

“I don’t subscribe to that school of thought. We need to give the virus a few more months to see it will turn out,” said Magoha.
