About the KJSEA Exams.

The KJSEA is designed to evaluate learners’ competencies in various areas, including English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Religious Education, Agriculture, Pre-Technical Studies, Creative Arts, and Physical Education.

KJSEA results will contribute 60 percent of the learners’ final score, while the remaining 40 percent will come from classroom assessments done in Grades 7 and 8. This integrated assessment approach aims to provide a more holistic picture of each learner’s strengths and abilities.

Placement at Senior School

The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) at the senior school level (Grades 10–12) introduces structured pathways, subjects, and school types designed to align learning with students’ talents and future career goals.

Placement in senior schools will depend on the performance of the student and alignment with career pathways.

Selection of Schools

Senior schools selected will be either triple pathway institutions, offering all three routes, or double pathway schools, offering two combinations, such as STEM with Arts and Sports (STEAMS) or STEM with Social Sciences (STEMS).

Accommodation models for the school chosen can include either a day school (commuting learners) or a hybrid school.

The school selected may be single-sex or mixed, with specialized institutions for learners with special needs, including vocational senior schools.

Currently, senior schools still fall under the traditional four-tier categorization:

  • C1 – National
  • C2 – Extra County
  • C3 – County
  • C4 – Sub-County
