Dr. Jeliah Akombe, a distinguished healthcare professional, holding dual certifications as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner successfully launched the Kenyan Nurses Association of America, KNAA in the year 2022!

In collaboration with the other key stakeholders, she successfully held a nurses gala for all the members on Saturday, December 2, 2023.  Dr. Jeliah Akombe is a sassy, audacious, diligent  and passionate medic, whose ingenious ideas have had a significant impact on the medical field. Besides, she is a philanthropist who would not dither when it comes to lending a helping hand. Her intuitive, amiable and charming nature makes her stand out from the rest, propelling her to the greatest heights that anyone could yearn for.

Born and bred in Kenya, Dr. Jeliah Akombe alias Nyakerario Akombe relocated to the United States of America in pursuit of academic excellence decades ago.  She is a famous digital creator with over 5.9K followers on Facebook. She has been on the limelight owing to her best practices and unrivalled professionalism.

Dr. Akombe rose to fame when she took it upon herself and called out to the North Carolina nurses and well wishers to hold a prayer vigil in honor of June Onkundi, PMHNP, a Kenyan nurse who went to work on October 18, 2023 only for her to meet her untimely demise, becoming a statistic of work place violence (WPV).

“Our North Carolina nurses, healthcare workers and well wishers, let’s support this cause. June was a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who was murdered by her patient while serving him. Let’s keep her legacy alive!” wrote Dr. Akombe on her Facebook page.

 

Dr. Jeliah Akombe’s fame was further crowned by the official launch of the Kenyan Nurses Association of America, KNAA in the year where she serves as the Chief Executive Officer, CEO.

Dr. Jeliah Akombe holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from New Jersey City University (NJCU), Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in family nurse practice from Walden University, a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Stamford University in Alabama and a Post Doctorate degree as a Psychiatric Mental Nurse Practitioner from the University of Massachusetts. She is also a proud alumnae of Nyabururu Girls High School.

Our Goals

  1. Lobbying
  • To be a voice at state and national level for matters that specifically affect Kenyan nurses in the USA.

  • To influence laws and regulations that affect the nursing profession.

  • To advocate for favorable working conditions for nurses

2. Education

  • Collaborate with Universities and colleges in the USA for discounted rates for tuition for KNAA members.

  • Discounts on continuing education (CEU).
    Seminars and webinars certifications offered through KNAA.

  • Access to medical and nursing journals.

  • Access to KNAA preceptors affiliated.

3. Mentorship

  • Establish NCLEX Programs and resources to prepare nurses in Kenya who want to work in the USA.

  • Provide a list of schools with competitive programs, less expensive and which offer flexibility to our members.

  • Establish a scholarship program that benefits KNAA members.

4. Entrepreneurship

  • Provide resources to nurses who want to start their own healthcare related businesses.

  • Establish mentorship programs that are geared towards self-employment.

  • Work with the local and federal governments on grants and loans.

5. Networking

  • Annual and semi-annual conferences to which we invite individuals from professions other than nursing.

  • Encourage networking within KNAA.

  • Provide a platform for strategic networking for KNAA members.
