This time around, the scandal revolves around the Ministry of Water’s expansive land which was part of the 4, 400 acres previously set aside for sewerage, storage, and treatment facilities for Nairobi City.
Water Permanent Secretary Joseph Irungu has since given a 72-hour notice to residents residing on the reclaimed parcel to vacate ahead of Sunday April 26, 2020 demolitions.
The ministry of water and sanitation has reclaimed 2, 700 acres of sewerage land which had been allegedly grabbed by DP Ruto and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo in Ruai area, Nairobi County.
According to the water ministry, the parcel was part of the 4, 400 acres set aside for sewerage, storage, and treatment facilities before being grabbed by private investors.
Water PS Joseph Irungu said the ministry still had a legitimate claim to the land since it had genuine title deeds.
“All I know is that I have the mother title, I have three titles actually to this land and they add up to 1716.9 ha. So if anybody is holding a paper and claiming ownership of the land then they have to prove it,” said the PS.
