Pursuant to the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and the County Governments Act No. 17 of 2012, the County Government of Kakamega invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill
the following vacant position.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
1) POSITION: ASSISTANT ECDE TEACHER III, JOB GROUP CPSB 11/‘H’ – (65 POSTS)
Basic Salary: Kshs. 26,900×1,110 – 28,010×1,120 – 29,130×1,150 – 30,280×1,170 – 31,450×1,250 – 32,700×1,300 – 34,000×1,380 – 35,380p.m.
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable
This is the entry grade for teachers with a Diploma Certificate in ECDE. A teacher at this level will work under the guidance of a more senior teacher for the purposes of professional mentoring and growth.
Duties and responsibilities will entail: –
This will be the entry point for diploma holders. Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
a) Teach learners;
b) Be a role model, guide and counsel, mentor and motivate the learners;
c) Prepare reports;
d) Assure safety and security of the learners;
e) Identify learners with special needs and recommend necessary interventions;
f) Develop and facilitate play and learning activities and materials that will enable learners enjoy living and learning through play;
g) Prepare and develop schemes of work, lesson plans and daily programmes of activities,
assessment and evaluation of learners’ progress and keep professional records; and
h) Guide the learner to prepare and develop play and learning materials.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
a) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C (Plain), or its approved equivalent; OR Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D+ (Plus), or its approved equivalent AND a Certificate in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) offered by KNEC or Ministry of Education or its approved equivalent;
b) DIPLOMA in Early Childhood Development and Education offered by KNEC or its approved equivalent;
c) Be conversant with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and other emerging learning trends;

3) POSITION: ASSISTANT POLYTECHNIC INSTRUCTOR III, JOB GROUP CPSB 11/‘H’ – (14 POSTS)
Basic Salary: Kshs. 26,900×1,110 – 28,010×1,120 – 29,130×1,150 – 30,280×1,170 – 31,450×1,250 –
32,700×1,300 – 34,000×1,380 – 35,380p.m.
Terms of service: Permanent and Pensionable
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
This is the entry grade for the County Polytechnic Instructors cadre. Instructors at this level will work under the guidance of a County Polytechnic Principal.
Specific duties and responsibilities shall include: –
a) Instruct in areas of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;
b) Prepare and maintain schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson notes, teaching and learning materials and trainee records;
c) Carry out trainee assessment in class and on attachment;
d) Coordinate storage, care, maintenance and proper usage of teaching and learning materials, tools and equipment;
e) Conduct co-curricular activities for trainees;
f) Maintain trainee discipline through guiding and counseling; and
g) Induct and supervise the newly deployed Instructors.
Requirements for Appointment
For direct appointment to this grade, an instructor must have:
a) Diploma in any of the following technical disciplines: –
Building and Construction;
ii. Clothing or Fashion Design and Textile Technology;
iii. Automotive Engineering;
iv. Food Technology or Food and Beverage Management;
v. Agribusiness; and
vi. Hair Dressing and Beauty Therapy.
b) Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery will be an added advantage for candidates with a Diploma in Building and Construction;
c) Training in Pedagogical Skills; and
d) Registered by Technical Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).

Basic Salary: Kshs. 23,700×1,040 – 24,740×1,070 – 25,810×1,090 – 26,900×1,110 – 28,010×1,120 – 29,130×1,150 – 30,280×1,170 – 31,450p.m.
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable
This is the entry grade for teachers with a Certificate in ECDE. A teacher at this level will work under the guidance of a more senior teacher for the purposes of professional mentoring and growth.

g) Manage ECDE classes and keep professional and administrative records (schemes of work, lesson plans, daily programme of activities, attendance registers and health records);
h) Prepare and develop play and learning materials;
i) Guide the learner to prepare and develop play and learning materials; and
j) Identify and nurture talent in learners.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
a) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D+ (Plus) or KCE Division IV at O’
Level;
b) Certificate in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) offered by KNEC or Ministry of Education or its approved equivalent;
c) Be conversant with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and other emerging learning trends;
f) Registered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC); and
g) Certificate in Computer Applications.
NOTE: The Department of Education, Science and Technology has vacancies for Assistant ECDE Teachers in the following ECDE Centres.
