The Kenya Coast National Polytechnic has got nine departments with various courses ranging from diploma to artisan levels.
KENYA COAST NATIONAL POLYTECHNIC APPLIED SCIENCES DEPARTMENT’S LIST OF COURSES- ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY
There are currently four sections in the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic’s department of applied sciences.
These are Pharmaceutical Technology, Applied Chemistry, Food Science &Technology and Applied Biology.
The department of applied sciences at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic offers certificates and diplomas whose curriculum is approved by the Ministry of Education and examined by the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC to ensure quality.
This department has got three fully-equipped science laboratories and a pharmacy dispensing laboratory for practical lessons. The construction of four new laboratories for medical analysis, pharmaceutical practice, food processing and microbiology is underway.

DIPLOMA IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY
CURRENT JOB OPENINGS FOR GRADUATES WITH A DIPLOMA IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY
This course produces graduates who can work in various chemical industries as technologists. These graduates are equipped with adequate practical skills to enable them to work in industrial control laboratories, advanced research laboratories, analytical mind demanding situations and laboratory management.
DIPLOMA IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
KCSE mean grade of C Plain with C- Minus in Chemistry or a KNEC Certificate in Science laboratory technician (crslt)

The Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC.
ADMISSIONS
Admission for students wishing to undertake a diploma in analytical chemistry is done every academic year.
DIPLOMA IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY COURSE OUTLINE AND DURATION
The course takes three years for fresh KCSE graduates and two years for those with a KNEC Certificate in Science Laboratory Technician (CRSLT).
The course involves both theoretical and practical lessons. Trainees undertake closely supervised industrial attachments aimed at exposing them to real work situations. They also undertake a trade project as part of the training and examination.

EXAMINATION
At the end of the three years for fresh students or a two-year-period of study for those with a certificate in Science laboratory technician, students are required to sit for a KNEC exam to enable them to graduate.
FIELD VISITS
Students at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic usually go for field trips aimed at enhancing a deeper understanding of their course content.
ATTACHMENT
Students are expected to go for three months of attachment to help them gain experience in their areas of specialization.
